Racial literacy is one of Raízes’ anti-racism strategies. The Brazilian Academy of Letters defines it as a set of pedagogical practices that aim to make individuals aware of the structure and functioning of racism in society and enable them to recognize, criticize, and combat racist attitudes in their daily lives.

This Black Awareness Month, there is a lot of debate about being anti-racist, but little is said about the concrete actions that need to be taken to combat this evil that is so intertwined in our society.

That’s why, in today’s video, we brought together part of our team to discuss racial literacy, decolonial thinking, and other topics that we use in our company strategies and projects to perpetuate equity and fight against racism. Check it out below (in Portuguese)!

We are Raízes, a social business that designs and implements territorial development and social transformation projects based on entrepreneurship to empower vulnerable groups and strengthen socio-biodiversity. We work to reduce social inequalities (SDG10), promote gender equality (SDG5), and foster fair and dignified work for all (SDG8).
