Jequitinhonha Valley, in the Northeast of Minas Gerais, overpassed borders of Brazil and reached the world – Not only because of community based tourism, but also because of the documentary produced by the Canadian television station, TV5. Jequitinhonha will now be known throughout the world.
In 2015, the TV station chose Vale do Jequitinhoha, in Minas Gerais, as the scenario for their alternative tourism program Partir Autrement (tourism by other ways).
The good results of the work done by Raízes Sustainable Development in the Valley were highlighted on the film, which mainly talked about deep trips of transformation. This script fits perfectly with the tour offered by Raízes, called “Do Barro à Arte” (from the clay to the art).
But do you know what’s the best about it? The entire program with subtitles in Portuguese is available in our channel on YouTube, shared in four parts! So let’s check it out, right?
Part 1
The presenter of Partir Autrement, Magalie Lépine-Blondeau, arrives on the Valley of Jequitinhonha through Minas Novas and is welcomed by Mariana Madureira, director of Raízes. In the community of Campo Buriti she is introduced to Deuzani and Faustina. Magalie starts to fall in love for the region.
Part 2
Magalie goes with Ana, Terezinha and Valdirene to get the clay. She also meets the craftswoman Zezinha and together with Mariana and Faustina she visits the local school and dances a typical rhythm.
Part 3
After visiting the market at Turmalina with Faustina, Magalie meets Joaquim and picks a typical fruit from his garden. The guest learns local recipes and eats with Dona Isabel.
Part 4
After an emotional trip, Magalie says that she’d like to bring a miniature of everyone she had met so she could take them back to Canada in her suitcase. Certainly we all wish we could keep you here too!
