Feasibility Study for Tourist Train

Period and duration

2024 - 2025

Client

Coverage and location

São Paulo State cities of São João da Boa Vista and Águas da Prata (SP).

At the request of VLI and APTF (Association for the Preservation of Railway Traditions), Raízes conducted a feasibility study for the implementation of a new tourist train in the interior of São Paulo – between São João da Boa Vista and Águas da Prata.

The proposal is that, more than just a ride, the project will create an immersive cultural experience, allowing passengers to embark on a journey through time. Through themed itineraries, local cuisine, and heritage appreciation, the train aims to connect the public with the history and landscape of the region.
To this end, Raízes conducted a study based on current and potential tourism in the two municipalities and the region. It calculated the ideal ticket price based on this projected audience and also in comparison with similar benchmarks. The project was also responsible for surveying operating prices to calculate financial viability based on projected demand, calculated ideal price, and expected operating costs.

In this context, a robust study with a preliminary model of the tourism business was delivered. It is hoped that this in-depth study produced by Raízes for presentation to ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) will help to speed up the licensing process necessary for the operation. It is also hoped that all recommendations passed on to APTF will contribute to the creative and sustainable management of this important attraction for regional culture and memory.

Finally, it is hoped that the tourist train will be implemented and promote sustainable tourism, the preservation of railway memory, and positive impacts on local communities, transforming tracks into routes of culture and regional development.

“I was very pleased with the attention and commitment of the Raízes team in developing this project. We hope to be able to continue and implement all the suggestions made in the study.”
Sérgio Feijão (APTF)
