The Tourism Development Plan for the São Domingos Quilombo in Paracatu – MG is an initiative of SEBRAE MG with the support of Paracatu City Hall, and the execution of Raízes Desenvolvimento Sustentável, which began in June 2023.

The project’s main objective is to develop a sustainable source of income that values the local quilombola culture. The project also aims to be a pilot for possible later implementation in other communities in the municipality and to add value to Paracatu as a tourist destination. In this sense, the project’s macro objectives are:

  • To create sensitivity, awareness, and alignment with the community on community-based tourism and forms of development that adhere to the local reality;
  • Support the organization and structuring of local tourism governance;
  • Identify potential community-based tourism experiences;
  • Support tourism governance in opening up the quilombo to tourism.

This project therefore aims to start planning and developing tourism activities in the Quilombo of São Domingos. In this phase (2023), awareness-raising, the formation of governance, and the identification of tourism products will be completed.

With a total duration of 6 months, this project had 5 stages: Kick-Off and Work Plan, Recognition and Awareness Raising, Mobilization and Mapping of “Actors”, Networking Training, and Identification of Experiences.
