With exclusive ecotourism packages, the company offers unforgettable experiences that allow people to connect with nature in a deep and meaningful way. The business’s differential is its scientific expeditions, which bring laypeople closer to science and fund research.
13. Petiscaria Sol e Mar
Caravelas – BA
Petiscaria Sol e Mar, an initiative coordinated by the Barra de Caravelas Fishermen’s and Shellfish Gatherers’ Association, has emerged as the association’s new Community-Based Tourism (CBT) venture, taking advantage of its proximity to the Abrolhos National Park.
Operating for just over a month on Grauça Beach, it directly involves around 50 young people from the community, promoting income generation through the sale of local products such as handmade snacks and fruit pulp.
14. Pousada Corais de Abrolhos
Caravelas – BA
Pousada Corais de Abrolhos, located in Caravelas, is a small family-run inn managed by Marluce Santos de Carvalho Miccolis and her husband, Alexandre Miccolis. The property was built with renewable and recycled materials, reflecting a strong commitment to sustainability. It is mainly aimed at families and couples visiting the region to explore the corals of Abrolhos.
Barra Velha, Nova Viçosa – BA
The Ilha do Cascalho Kiosk is a family-run business with more than a decade of experience, located within the Cassurubá Extractive Reserve (Resex) and operating under its authorization. Without electricity, the business operates as a beach hut, serving food and drinks and mainly serving tourists with local products such as fresh coconut water.
16. Restaurante Tempero das Bahianas
Barra de Caravelas – BA
The Tempero das Bahianas Restaurant, located in the Fishermen’s Coexistence Center in Caravelas, is a community enterprise. The initiative is part of a community-based tourism project promoted by the Association of Residents, Fishermen, and Shellfish Gatherers of Barra de Caravelas. It is operated by women who, as well as being fishermen, are dedicated to gastronomy, offering typical dishes prepared with local ingredients. It was set up to offer tasty dishes at fair prices to local residents, but it has also become popular with visitors.
Prado – BA
The Maturembá Route project has been running for seven months and offers birdwatching experiences through community tourism in the villages within the Descobrimento National Park in Prado. They promote public use in the Conservation Unit, encouraging the conservation of species and generating income for the traditional Pataxó community.
Caravelas – BA
The Tapera and Miringaba Route is a community-based tourism proposal by the Tapera and Miringaba Community Association, operated by residents in their activities. It is a way of experiencing the biodiversity and cultural traditions of the Abrolhos riverside area with a focus on preserving socio-biodiversity.
Belmonte – BA
Sustentamar is made up of a group of women who are realizing their dream of emerging from invisibility, adding value to fish and shellfish, and, through their work in fishing, opening doors for sustainable tourism to take place in the community. They work with traditional cuisine, seafood processing, and cultural traditions such as Samba de Roda and Contradança.
Cumuruxatiba, Prado – BA
Tradicional Pé Rachado has been operating for 10 years on Cumuruxatiba’s postcard spot, in front of the old wooden pier. They are beneficiaries of the Corumbau Marine Extractive Reserve (Resex Corumbau), guaranteeing access to and care for the beach and remaining in the central and prime area of Cumuru. The establishment functions as a beach hut and promotes events and cultural work.
The first meeting of the mentors took place on June 19 and brought together the selected initiatives and representatives from Conservation International, Futuri, and Raízes Desenvolvimento Sustentável.
The meeting included a talk on Guidelines and Best Practices for Participating in Online Mentoring, led by Mariana Madureira, from Raízes. Thaís Guimarães, senior project coordinator at Conservation International (CI-Brazil), presented a history of the organization in the region and the Tourism + Sustainability Project. Bruna Canal, in turn, presented Futuri and the benefits of becoming a partner of our alliance. The mentees shared details about their businesses and their expectations for the project.
The mentoring continues until December 2024, and we’re looking forward to this beautiful journey!
