Hospitality is at the heart of Brazilian culture. We are known for our human warmth, for the table always set and for our desire to make visitors feel at home. And in 2025, Belém, in Pará, will have the opportunity to show this essence to the world by hosting COP 30, the most important climate event on the planet. In this context, home hosting has emerged as a smart and welcoming solution to welcome visitors and offer them an authentic experience.
With the arrival of thousands of people in the city, a challenge arises: the supply of accommodation. The number of hotel and hostel beds may not be sufficient to meet this historic demand. The sudden increase in demand for accommodation may impact prices, accessibility for many visitors, as well as the post-event impact on the community.
But what if the solution was in the homes of the residents of Belém and surrounding areas?
Home stays: an opportunity for hosts and travelers
Home stays are an alternative that benefits both visitors and hosts. For outsiders, it means the chance to experience the local culture up close, try home cooking, listen to authentic stories and feel the true spirit of the Amazon. For residents of Belém and the surrounding region, it’s an opportunity to generate extra income, share knowledge and be part of this historic moment.
In addition, home-based accommodation contributes to more responsible and inclusive tourism, promoting authentic connections between visitors and the local community. This model not only helps to meet the demand for accommodation during major events, but also values what is most genuine about Pará’s culture.
Raízes Desenvolvimento Sustentável and Diaspora.Black believe in the transformative power of responsible and inclusive tourism. That’s why we’ve combined our expertise to train families interested in welcoming travelers in a qualified, safe and welcoming way.
Free training to welcome people to COP 30
With this in mind, we have launched a free online course aimed at residents of Belém and the surrounding area who want to prepare for this opportunity. Over the course of seven meetings, we’ll cover topics such as hospitality, community-based tourism, pricing, promotion and marketing of home-based accommodation.
The course is designed to offer practical and applicable learning, helping participants to structure their home-stay offer in a professional manner. Each module will provide essential knowledge for transforming a home into a space prepared to welcome visitors from different parts of the world.
Classes will always take place on Mondays, from 7pm to 9pm, totaling 14 hours of training. Participants who attend at least five of the seven modules will receive a certificate. Registration is open until April 14, 2025 and places are limited.
If you want to turn your home into a space for connection and cultural exchange, this is your chance! Home hosting can be the first step towards a new path in tourism, creating meaningful relationships and generating a positive impact on the local economy.
